There are Times and Places is a virtual project produced and presented by Koffler.Digital, a free online platform and program of the Koffler Centre of the Arts.

The project features four original artworks by artists asinnajaq, Dayna Danger, Coco Guzman, Mani Mazinani and Wuulhu, each exploring ways in which the Internet functions (and, sometimes, fails) as an alternative, digitally constructed space for forming community, expanding identity, and knowledge sharing.

Our challenge was not only to facilitate how these four different artworks could work in an interactive dialogue with an online audience, but to give the project an overarching visual framework that didn’t overpower the individual pieces.

We settled on re-mixing a mid-90’s desktop aesthetic; a time in which the internet still held the playfully naïve promise of building virtual communities that could transcend racial, geographical and economic divides.

What emerges is a bitter-sweet look, rooted as much in sugary nostalgia as it is in nihilistic ennui.
