By leveraging thousands of photographs, videos, 360-degree panoramic images, and meticulously collected data, One Hundred Homes reveals the reality and richness of life behind the results of the household consumption survey used throughout India by statisticians and policy makers.
The goal of the project is to approach discussions on income inequality and poverty from a more grounded and humanistic view, as well as question the current abstracted method of creating policy by viewing the statistics of income and consumption as merely numerical values.
With increasing interest in economic inequality around the world and, especially, in this long period of economic growth in India, there is always a risk of losing sight of what ordinary peoples’ lives are like that underpin the abstractions of “inequality” and “poverty”.
