Jail has serious, negative long-term effects on an adolescent. In Canada, the law states that young people under the age of 18 should be kept out of jail at all costs. Still, too many young people are sent to jail when they are charged with an offence. This is especially true for BIPOC youth.
Unequal Justice was commissioned by the John Howard Society of Ontario as an online companion project to their report on the Ontario’s youth bail system.
